A visa is aformal document that permits the holder to legally enter a foreign country. The visa is generally stamped or pasted into the holder’s passport. There are several different types of visas, each of which gives the holder different rights in the host country. For all the countries in the world, Visa is a legal mandatory document that authenticates a person’s identity and the duration of permitted time period valid for the journey into the premises of that particular company.
HOW TO APPLY FOR A VISA?
To apply for a visa-
- First of all, use your preferred search engine and find the official government immigration website of the country you wish to visit.
- Then, after reading all the information including the visa application requirements, fill out the required travel visa application form.
- Re-check your details and apply for e-Visa India. You will shortly get a response via e-mail.
Extension of Visa
Foreign nationals who have entered India on an Entry (X) visa canreach out to the concerned FRRO/FRO office for a visa extension only in the situations mentioned below:
- A person of Indian origin who held an Indian passport at any time.
- A person whose either his/her parents or grandparents or great grandparents were born in and permanently resident in India and none of them was any time a citizen of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, China, Pakistan or Sri Lanka or any other country that has been mentioned by the Government of India.
- A person who is the spouse of a citizen of India or a person of Indian origin (as explained above).
Foreign citizens who have ‘X’ entry visa canvisit the concerned FRROs/FROs cum Superintendents of Police for extension of Entry visa with the documents listed below:
- Form for Visa Extension.
- One recent passport size photograph.
- Copy of passport/VISA/Registration Certificate.
- Copy of valid and certified Lease/Rent agreement or Copy of C-Form from the Hotel or copy of recent electricity/telephone bill along with the letter from the landlord as a proof of residence.
- Original Passport.
- Copy of marriage certificate, copy of Indian passport and Indemnity Bond.
- Copy of birth certificate and copy of either parents’ Indian passport.
Guidelines vis-à-vis conversion of ‘X'(Entry) visa of the spouse of an employee on intra-company transfer into Employment Visa
The conversion of ‘X'(Entry) visa of the spouse of an employee due to an intra-company relocation into Employment Visa can be performed within the country if the following conditions are fulfilled:
- The Applicant will be required to fulfil all the conditions listedfor grant of Employment Visa.
- Conversion of ‘X’ Visa into Employment Visa in such cases will be allowed only with the prior approval of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Note: Employment or Business is not allowed on entry ‘X’ visa.
The extension is provided on a year to year basis for a maximum of 5 years.
If a further extension is required, the application for extension is raised to the Ministry of Home Affairs for approval and thereafter further extension is allowed if approved by MHA.
- Exit Permission: Foreign nationals who have Entry Visa and have prolongedtheir stay for three months or less can avail exit permission from the concerned FRROs/FROs subject to certain conditions.

Requirements for Extension of Visa
Following are the important points to be considered before applying for the extension of Visa:
- Foreigners must submit the application form for the extension of visa at least 60 days prior to the date of expiry of their present visa. In case any person causes a delay in the renewal of visa, he will be charged with a specific amount of penalty fee as per the rules of the government.
- In the case of overstay, a foreigner is liable for prosecution under Foreigners Act 1946 and imprisonment up to 5 years with a specific amount of fine and expulsion from the particular country, as per the rules of the government.
- The list of documents that should be submitted on the application for the extension of visa is mentioned below
- Visa-Extension application form duly filled and signed by the applicant.
- Photocopies of the data pages of the applicant’s passport.
- Photocopy of the document on which arrival stamp has been affixed.
- Copy of confirmed Return Ticket.
- A valid bank statement.
- A copy of residence proof.
- Bonafide certificate (in case of student visa)
- Medical certificate (in case of medical visa)
- A copy of contract paper (in case of employment visa)
- A copy of incorporation letter (in case of business visa)
- A copy of accreditation certificate (in case of journalist visa)
